Garshana (Sanskrit for “dry rubbing”) is a traditional Ayurvedic dry massage practiced in India for thousands of years. Incorporating a 5-minute garshana massage into your daily skincare routine will refresh & stimulate the skin & lymphatic system, increase blood circulation & release accumulated toxins.
With the exception of the heart area, you may massage the entire body as well as the face. Use small circular brush strokes for the joints & long sweeping brush strokes for the limbs & torso. It is best to brush toward the heart to assist the movement of lymph in the body, applying as much pressure as comfortable. Exert more force in areas of fatty tissue & brush gently on sensitive areas.
Suggested Practice:
Wearing your 100% raw silk gloves, begin at the top of the head making small circular motions.
You may choose to lightly massage the face using small circular motions from the center outward.
Move to the neck and shoulder areas using long brush strokes.
Continue to the arms with long strokes, incorporating circular motions at your wrists and elbows.
Next, massage the abdominal area in a clockwise motion, the natural path of digestion.
The lower back and hips/buttocks area can be massaged using the circular motion.
Finish the massage with feet and legs using circular strokes for the knees and ankles and long strokes for the feet and legs.
Once finished, complete your routine with a shower to rinse the toxins and feel energized.
Why Raw Silk:
All silk comes from the cocoon of the silkworm (actually a caterpillar). Traditional silk uses the long strands and undergoes a processing treatment to give it a soft feel and shine. Unlike traditional silk, raw silk is unprocessed and uses the shorter silk fibers left over after the spinning process. Raw silk proteins produced by the silkworm during the cocoon process remain with the fabric and are beneficial to skin and hair health. It is hypoallergenic and suitable for all types of skin. The shorter fibers give raw silk a coarser, uneven texture that is slightly knobbed, making it an excellent exfoliant.
Care:
Iba Ayurveda raw silk gloves are durable and can be machine washed and dried. They will become more knobbed after washing. Do not iron or bleach.
